Ortiz will be defending his title, WBC Welterweight belt, for the first time he defeated Andre Berto just a few months ago. The previously undefeated Berto was favoured to win over Ortiz but the underdog still managed to come out on top and won the game via unanimous decision. Their explosive clash is now regarded as Fight of the Year Contender. And from then on, Ortiz has been considered as the number two welterweight boxer in the world, just behind Manny Pacman Pacquiao. He has also gained some courage and self-esteem after facing several setbacks on his career.

And now, Berto has come out and gave his thoughts about the upcoming bout of Ortiz and Mayweather. Although he admits that he has developed some respect for his former opponent, he still thinks that Mayweather will still emerge as the winner. In a recent radio interview with the 28-year old boxer, Berto commented, “Mayweather should be able to outbox him. He’ll be smart.”

But he added that it will a bit tough, though, for Mayweather to take down Ortiz. He continued, “He’s a very tough kid. He’s going to come strong. He’s going to come aggressive. But we’ll have to see how he handles the big stage.” Berto has just come from a victorious win over Dejan Zavec, taking home the IBF welterweight title via technical knockout. He expects to be fighting the winner of the clash between Mayweather and Ortiz, unless Ortiz pulls another upset, to which he owes a rematch against Mayweather.

Ortiz was hailed by ESPN as prospect of the Year in 2008, after his impressive run back in 2007 and 2008. But he criticized by some that these fighters were already past their prime when Mayweather fought with them. He has also remained inactive in the sport for close to a year, forcing his name to be taken out of the pound for pound rankings. So Mayweather needs to some fin tune up on his training.

And on his comeback, he wants to fight against a boxer who is a lot younger and bigger than him. Mayweather is ten years younger than his opponent. And the people behind the fight wants to make sure that it will be much talked about as the fighters will be featured on the award winning series 24/7, which will air not just on HBO but also on CNN.
