Floyd Mayweather, Jr. will be making a huge comeback inside the ring in just a few weeks now, and he is now gearing to be facing Victor Ortiz, a 24-year old boxer who will be defending his WBC Welterweight championship belt. The matchup is billed as Star Power, and it will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 17, 2011. The game is one of the most awaited matchups as one of the biggest names in boxing history will be taking on an up-and-coming fighter. Another David versus Goliath.
But Mayweather has been taking some serious flacks against him lately. He has been outside the ring for a more than a year, resulting to having his name be taken off from the pound for pound rankings. And upon his return to his workout, he admitted that he feels a bit rusty during the first few rounds of his rigid training under his Uncle Roger Mayweather. But he knows that he has to push himself to the limit by keeping mentally strong. And he also wants to see to his fans that he is still has what it takes to be on top again.
But the biggest questions about is not about Mayweather taking a long hiatus from the ring, but also the distractions outside the ring. He will be facing up against a slew of filed charges. His former girlfriend has filed criminal charges, including domestic battery, harassment, and felony. If he will be found guilty, he will be sent in prison for about 34 years. He was asked if this will affect his upcoming bout, he replied, “My thing is to worry about my job and leave it to my attorneys. I will ask, where’s the pictures? My attorneys are dealing with it.”
Then, there’s the defamation charge filed against him by Pacquiao, about him accusing the Filipino boxer/politician of using performance enhancing drugs. He also shrugged it off, and added, “I don’t think about it. He’s a congressman, right? But he has the worst contract in boxing history. How smart is he? I’m just going to be working hard.”
