Floyd Mayweather, Jr. maybe calling himself as one of the best fighters in the history of boxing, even after 41 bouts in a career spanning for almost 20 years has remained unbeaten, a former number one pound for pound fighter in the world, a five-division champion with ten world titles, and was called twice the Fighter of the Year, some people are still not all that impressed with Mayweather. He even predicted that he will Knockout Ortiz on our last post. And one of them is his upcoming opponent, the current WBC Welterweight world champion Victor Ortiz, who is ten years younger than the 34-year old boxer. Ortiz has a scorecard of 29 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws, with 22 KOs.
Ortiz is slated to defend his belt against Mayweather at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on September 17 and is billed as Star Power. He revealed that even before, he was not a huge fan of the headline prone boxer and he was not somebody that Ortiz looked up to when he was growing up. He also wants to be the one to put Mayweather in his misery. He said during one of the interviews, “Mayweather is not someone that I had respect for when I was a kid. He was never one of my favorites. I knew that the day they put me in against him, I would finish his run.”
Ortiz has just found his confidence back after he suffered a few major letdowns in his career. The ESPN 2008 Prospect of the Year made a huge comeback earlier after an upset win over the former WBC welterchampion Andre Berto last April. He even predicted that he will end Mayweather's perfect record with a knockout. Berto was favored to win and was on his fifth defense title, when Ortiz beaten him with a unanimous decision. He is now ranked as the second best pound for pound fighter in the world, behind Manny Pacquiao. And he also vows that he will slowly but surely pound on Mayweather, and he will take his time until he will be able to finally knock him down. “The simple truth is, Mayweather has the difficult fight, not me. I’m going to destroy, little by little, round by round, until the knockout.”
